 | American League Names Rookie of Month Saturday, October 1st, 1966: Rod Carew was toddling around on his tricycle when some of the guys he's playing against were in their prime, but the 20-year-old second baseman definitely knows how to get to first, second or beyond. Today he was chosen September's American League Rookie of the Month for his remarkable month of hitting.
In 23 games Carew batted .293 for Boston, slapping 27 hits in 92 at-bats with no home runs, drove in 7 runs and scored 14 times.
This year Carew is batting .287 with 11 home runs and 65 RBIs. | |
