Monday, November 23rd, 2009: Orioles, Rays Agree to Swap
Done deal! The Baltimore Orioles have agreed to send 22-year old minor league center fielder Gorkys Hernandez to the Tampa Bay Rays for 23-year old minor league starting pitcher Gaby Hernandez. The trade, rumored for days, was completed in the wee hours this morning.



Tuesday, November 10th, 2009: AL's Best Hurler is Kazmir
The Cy Young Award for 2009 has been presented and the American League winner is Scott Kazmir of Tampa Bay.

"It's always nice to receive an award like this," said Kazmir. "I just hope I can improve on my performance next year and be in the running again," the Rays star told reporters.

Kazmir excelled with an impressive 21-9 record in 33 starts. In 242 innings he yielded 195 hits and 74 walks, while striking out 222 and compiling a fine 2.60 ERA.
Tuesday, November 10th, 2009: Orioles Send Byrnes to Tampa Bay
The players apparently knew they were on the trading block, so it did not surprise one of them when he learned that he had been traded to Baltimore. "Got my bags packed already," he said, when reached for comment. The Orioles will receive 30-year old second baseman Akinori Iwamura, 36-year old first baseman Todd Helton and 22-year old minor league center fielder Gorkys Hernandez, while 33-year old left fielder Eric Byrnes, 24-year old reliever Luis Lebron and 19-year old minor league starting pitcher Jake Odorizzi will go to the Tampa Bay Rays.

Byrnes is batting .260 with 1013 career base hits, including 219 doubles, 37 triples and 136 home runs with 469 RBIs and 604 runs scored. He has played in 1123 games, stolen 179 bases and compiled a .320 OBP.

In his career Helton has played in 1898 games with a .325 batting average. Among his 2214 hits are 532 doubles, 34 triples and 343 home runs. He also has scored 1308 runs and driven in 1272 runs.
